Hi HSA,

My name is Mike and I live in Cincinnati, Ohio. I've had Vitiligo for about 52 years.
I highly recommend that you visit a recommended Dermatologist, in person if possible. I'm lucky to have Dr. Nordlund here in Cincinnati. He is one of the most highly qualified and recommended Dermatologists in the world.  I'm about to start treatment via him. A number of sites on the net have specialized doctor searches (even by area). I personally have experienced some of the biggest idiots that call themselves doctors and/or Dermatologists. And yes, they are still out there in large numbers. I'm not saying that Dr. Shaw is bad by any means, I've heard a lot of good about him. But treatment solely done by email doesn't seem practical to me.
I'm willing to be a support person for anyone out there if they wish. I'm new here and not sure if we're allowed to put our email address on here or not. Of course I have a thousand stories about Vitiligo to share.

   I have been supporting my sister who has vitiligo for the past 35 years. She had a little spot on her foot, when she was 5 years old.  Now its been gradually started spreading the whole body.
I have literally took in stride her anger, depression frustation and everything else that follows. Shorttemper, wrong career choice and its been terrible from day one.  We tried everything that was suggested to us and spent hunndreds of thousands of dollars.  Frankly, I dont think any of these medications allopathy, unani, ayurvedic worked for her. They had a temporary pigmentation but , there was always more expected of off these medications. Food restrictions depleted her immune system further. No vitamin c, No fruits , etc etc , I think is a bull crap.
After watching her and living with her I think something topical is the best solution untill a permanant cure is found. Did anyone try tanning?  I do not have vitiligio, but  I went through everything which a person with vitiligo will go through. Its horrible.
If Tanning works, I think  all vitiligo patients should go for it .

My argument , food restrictions, social inhibition causes more mental damage. This is a topical problem and why not solve it with topical applications. Dermabest, Tanning. I understand the cancer risk with tanning, but it outweighs longterm affects of malnutrition, unhappiness  , social outcastness is more debilitating.

I am 33 and diagnosed with vitiligo when I was 13. I came across Dr. Shah's website a few months ago and ordered a 4 month plan last week.

I am going to start the remedy sent by them soon. I was wondering if using their supplement worsens your vitiligo or had any other side effects? My medication is "Natrum Muriaticum ". Have you ever used this one?

October 2006       KALI - IOD 30  ( No change)

In December 2006 I stopped taking any more homeophathic medicines.
My spots are still the same.

 I am new to this website and have read about your problem,HSA.
I am also having this desiese from the past 6 years although total body area affected is very low below 2%.
I have once taken Dr. Shah treatment for 4 months but with no results.What i have found about Dr. Shah is that he popularise his site so much and have good communication.And I personally believe that he makes a lot of money by doing so.He is not the only one who does so..
 But I strongly believe that this desiese can be treated with Homoeopathy provided you are given the right medicine But I can tell u that U will find very few no. of good homeopathic doctor around you(atleast in INDIA).
 In homeopathy,they will not treat you with this particular desiese but they will give you medicine depending upon your overall symptoms.
 If you want to cary on your treatment with homeopathy, then find out a good homeopathy doctor around you.There is a good news about homoeopathy that some website have been launched from where you can find your own medicine depending upon your symptoms.But I would say that get those medicine checked with your homeopath before taking it.
 And one most important thing,I have found through this site some people try to advertise some doctors.Check about Dr. Li. you will find many products saying they will treat vitiligo but all of them do not give good results with everyone and I believe many of them are fake.If one is applying external treatment then in almost all cases there in one compound PSORALEA (BABCHI) which is found as the main ingradient. I have seen the seeds from which psoralea is extrated and some people say that applying that sed in paste form, this desiese can be treated but I have seen no results with me.psoralea is also given orally .

Actually vitiligo is irregularity of  internal resistive system of human beings, and currently there are no known permanent ways to treat this process.

I didnt go to Dr Shah but uncle did fly all the way there and spent a lot and still nothing improved.again, different people will gain different results depensing on their background.

I would recommend to fix it internally, that means avoid turmeric, chillies and milk n take supplements (thats what my Dr mentioned) and after 2 months, I see brown spots coming up onmy white patches..
oh ya, been having vitiligo since i was 17, and I am a 27 yr old woman now.
I think u guys know how stressful it is to wake up every morning and asking GOd-'why me?".

hi there, im a vitiligo sufferer of 13 years.had it since i was a little boy .now iv tried some amount of medicine during the years and dr.shahs homeopathy did not work at all for me.iv used it for 3 month and not a single improvement.why bother continuing if its not showing any responds?i would advise u to stop and try other methods then wasting your money on a doctor who u never meet before.i have tried some other medicine such as protopic ,meladinine tablets,anti vitiligo and also some traditional methods.

there is alot of comments regarding protopic, lots of vitiligo victims admits that the cream works.i tried it for a couple of month and no improvements.so i stop.(and its quite expensive too) .Now im on a lazer treatment call UBV lights.its not the UV lights cabin,where one would have to get in a cabin and UV light are shone around the whole body.UBV lights is much more concentrated and are only treated at the area where the white patches are.So far the whites around my lips and nose are vastly improving,(just within 4 weeks)but the ones on my fingers show very little pigmentation.so now im planning to mix both the protopic and this treatment and see how it works out.has anyone tried this before?if you have please let me know.

One word of warning, the so called anti vitiligo does not work!!! i angrily state this comment because it is the reason the whites on my fingers spread like wild fire.my fingers only has very small spots for years before and when i applied it, all hell broke lose.i stops immediately but now the spots are constantly growing but slowly. be absolutely careful when buying creams,pills or ointment on the internet.the result could be not as what u expected.

I think you should take a serious look at homeopathy on a site like http://www.homeowatch.org/.

The basic tenents of homeopathy, that water has a "memory" for the molecules that are in it is just plain silly.  How does that work exactly?  Why doesn't water then remember all the arsenic, urine, and *** that was in it an poison you?

It is frustrating to have a condition that has no cure; but I will not make someone rich by buying "magic" water from them that won't help me at all.

I will not risk my body and heath without real EVIDENCE based data to back up a treatment.  

There is no conspiracy by "big pharma" against homeopathy; it just doesn't work.  If it did, there would be DOCUMENTED proof.  The data is not "suppressed" to allow "them" to make big money. Corticosteroids and narrow-band ultraviolet B work are pretty cheap; you can get a nb-uvb lamp for $400-$800.

Corticosteroids, psoralen photochemotherapy, and narrow-band ultraviolet B work better than anything.  

I wish there was a magic cure for vitiligo, but homeopathy isn't it

Hi Everyone. I have had vitiligo since 1999, I tried so many different products and I finally found a combination of something that works. It started with once little patch under my bottom lip I think it came casue I was tanning in the salons alot and over the last 8 years it spread to under my entire lip and on my upper lip.

It's  aggravating especially when people notice it. Since my skin is white you can only notice it in the summer when my skin tans. One thing that seemed to stop it and it almost is all gone was two creams. The first cream was prescribed to me by my dermitologist it's called Protopic.. tarcrolimus ointment 0.1%. I have been using that since 2008, in order to get it you need a prescription from a Doctor.Also, I later last year started using DNA serum cream. The cream is called Genewize. Basically they take your genetic DNA from a cotton Swap and they exam it. Once they see the what your body lacks in vitamins they created a special cream for me. I started taking the cream back in August or September dont remember exactly.

I would use the Protopic at night before bed and then in the morning when i woke up. during the day 2-3 times i would rub in the Genewize cream like a lotion on my face, just around the spots. Up until December is when my wife noticed the white spots were fading away to almost nothing. The two creams seem to be working very well. The Protopic cost me around like 60 bucks cause my insurance only covers generic and the GeneWize is around 100 bucks.

The company that makes Protopic is Astellas, and The company the makes the DNA serum is called Genewize, they do customized nutrition and the cream also helps with like anti-aging and wrinkles. The company is pretty cool and the people are very helpful. I am new to this forum. I am also a vitiligo victim. I read some of the comments here. One of you talked about "Bavachi". It really works, even though the re-pigmentation process is very slow. I am carrying white patches on my legs and on feet since 2001 (when I graduated from Grade 10). But never got enough time to treat it, because of my school, college and then I moved to US for higher studies. However, now I decided to uproot this stubborn disease. I am in the second phase of the treatment; in the first phase, I was not regular (though committed). It is working, but on a very very slow pace. But this makes me happy
